My Essentials {Nordic Natural Review}

by Lauren on February 12, 2012

When I was a little girl, there were a handful of things in my life that I felt I absolutely could not survive without.  A few of these being my white and black saddle shoes, my impressive sticker collection and a quality grilled cheese, made only with yellow american cheese slices.  Looking back, I realize that the reason why I felt so attached to these things is because they all held some kind of sentimental memory. I remember wearing those shoes on my very first day of school, I made my first childhood friend over that sticker collection and my mom would always make me a crustless grilled cheese sandwich when I was sick.

As an adult, the things I find to be essential in my life have greatly changed.  If you were to ask me to choose the things I consider my essentials at this point in my life, I would probably give you the following answers (in no particular order).

Coffee

Wine

Frozen Yogurt

Good friends (particularly ones that love frozen yogurt)

My family

My husband

My “Sammy”

My health and fitness

All of the above are things that I can not imagine living my life without.  The last one being something that took me a long time to fully appreciate.  Today, I am constantly trying to incorporate more essential nutrients into my diet to ensure that my body has exactly what it needs to feel the best it can.  As a woman, I have discovered that there are certain nutrients that we specifically require in order for our bodies to function the way they were intended to, one of these being Omega-3′s.

Everything from the health of your immune system to the health of your heart, your joints, and even your emotional well-being is affected by the omega-3 levels in your body. Omega-3’s work because they encourage the production of body chemicals that help control inflammation in your blood, tissues, and joints. They also help balance the negative impact of another type of fat, omega-6’s, which are much more prevalent in the American diet.

A few days ago, I was contacted by Nordic Naturals who asked if I would like to receive a review their Ultimate Omega-D3.  I accepted this opportunity mainly because I am at a point in my womanhood where I am trying to obtain all of the essential fatty acids I can get.

Anytime I see a pill that has fish oil in the ingredient list, I automatically assume it is going to smell and taste fishy.  On the contrary, these pills had absolutely no scent or taste and what was even more surprising was that they soft gels which made them easy to swallow and digest.

I’ve been including these into my morning vitamin routine and feel great each day knowing that I am starting each day with a significant dose of Omega’s.

Nordic Natural’s is currently running a contest where you can enter to win a trip to Santa Cruz, CA by writing to them what you feel is the most essential things in your own life.  Check out the official rules here or find more about them through their Facebook or Twitter pages.

I’m with you on the coffee, wine, and family being top essentials. I’ve yet to take supplemental vitamins or minerals in my diet, so I’m sure if I’d feel any different taking them or not. What do you think the omega 3′s do to help you feel healthier? I’ve heard about them, but not sure on what they do.

Well, personally, I know they are essential for women for healthy fertility and I also notice great benefits physically as far as shiny hair, glowing skin and healthy nails. But the health benefits are incredible! You can read about them all here. http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=84

Can’t live without coffee! And wine. :-)

I haven’t tried supplements, but I have a bunch of multivitamins from CVS races that I’ve done. I wonder if taking those will have any affect? Hmm..
