Enhancements: I Need Your Help

by Lauren on August 10, 2012

This day is flying by!  I’m going through some transitioning right now which is keeping me extremely preoccupied but in a very productive way.  I’m trying to get everything done by 4pm because I have a very exciting date planned with the lovely Sara.

Speaking of transition, I wanted to ask you all a favor.  I’m working on making a few enhancements to this blog.  I don’t necessarily want to say “changes” because I feel that most people fear that word so “enhancements” sounds much better.

The first alteration I’m leaning towards is more posts throughout the day.  Currently, my posting schedule is designed once a day (usually in the evenings) and chronicles the events and food of my day.  Time to time, I throw in a recipe, giveaway, review, workout, or a more meaningful topic to discuss.  I’m toying with the idea of posting 2-3 times a day because I feel that I may put way too much content into one post alone.

Also, one thing I’ve been meaning to do for some time now is update the recipe focus on this blog.  I’ve been contacted by numerous readers who have all suggested I put some emphasis into a more solid recipe page.  That is definitely in my grand plan, don’t you worry!

Now is where I need your help.  What are things you would like to see develop with this site?  More recipes, more workout posts, more giveaways, more health related topics, etc.  And, would you be interested in seeing multiple (shorter) posts in a day rather than one large one?

Every comment and suggestion is so welcomed and appreciated.  Just to show you that, I am going to select 3 people from the comment section to receive FREE Chobani coupons.  Just make a suggestion on this post by Sunday night and I will choose 3 people to receive 3 coupons for some FREE Cho!

Now, as for lunch today….

Lunch

It was one of those days when I felt compelled to put together a kitchen sink salad.  This usually happens towards the end of the week when the need to use up the last of the vegetables occurs.

  • Romaine and Kale
  • Zucchini (homegrown)
  • Tomato (homegrown)
  • Asparagus
  • Cabbage
  • Avocado
  • Dried Cherries
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Grilled Chicken
  • Nutritional Yeast
  • Hummus
  • Balsamic

These salads never disappoint.

Well better get back to my task list.  4pm is right around the corner!

Have a wonderful Friday everyone!

First of all, I love your blog and I’m so glad I found it!
I would love to see more posts throughout the day if you have the time to do that. I’m sure it must be hard with work and life in general :-)
I also second the addition of more recipes and workouts that we coudl print and do at home.
Good luck!!

Lauren August 10, 2012 at 2:41 pm

You are so awesome! Thank you so much for your feedback. :)

Kimberley August 10, 2012 at 3:03 pm

Hi lauren, I read your blog daily but rarely comment! I actually have always loved your posting schedule, the one post per day and the structure of your posts! But im sure multiple/shorter posts would be just as great! I love getting food/recipe ideas from your daily eats so more recipes would definitly be fun and some workouts as well :)

Goodluck with everything girl!

Lauren August 10, 2012 at 3:05 pm

Thanks so much Kimberly for your feedback and support. :)

Erika August 10, 2012 at 3:04 pm

Definitely more, structured recipes would be great.

I’m not sure about number of posts. Sometimes I feel like numerous shorter posts are overwhelming (like if I take the weekend off from view posts than open my Reader and see 15 posts from one person – it’s a lot to catch up on). But, I also like the shorter, more focused posts that don’t skim on details. You can always go back if you or your readers don’t seem to like it.

Lauren August 10, 2012 at 3:06 pm

Good suggestions Erika. Thanks so much for your input!

Victoria August 10, 2012 at 3:05 pm

More recipes and more workouts. I love running, as I know you do too, but I struggle to find good workouts other than running. I know you’ve been working with a trainer and I’d love to hear some good tips. :) PS-can you FB message me about the blogger meet up?

Lauren August 10, 2012 at 3:15 pm

Hey Victoria! Thanks for your feedback and I will definitely be sure to include some more tips on workouts other than running. I just FB’ed you so just let me know what email address you want me to use and I will send you the details on the meet up. Hope you can make it!

CJ @ http://healthy-happy-whole.com August 10, 2012 at 3:07 pm

I really like your idea of posting more throughout the day. I also like when you do “heavier” posts where you let us get to know you more. Of course I hope as our friendship progresses I will get to know you more on a personal level so feel free to completely ignore this if you dont want to be that open in such a public place, but its just a thought. some of those are my favorite because you have such an eloquent way of capturing the raw reality that life isnt always perfect.
love you girl! so glad you are “enhancing” your life :-)

Lauren August 10, 2012 at 3:14 pm

Thanks CJ. Your words and support always mean so much. :) xoxo

April August 10, 2012 at 3:19 pm

I have unsubscribed from some blogs that post multiple times a day because it gets a little overwhelming! But I definitely would love more recipes, some of the ones I’ve found from your blog have been the best!

Lauren August 10, 2012 at 3:30 pm

Thanks for your feedback April. I’m still on the fence about the multiple posts for that reason but I know some people hate a big long post with lots of content. Hopefully I’ll figure out a nice balance. :) And thanks so much for the compliment! So glad you enjoy them.

Lily August 10, 2012 at 3:40 pm

Hi Lauren –

I love your blog – I look forward to your inspirational posts, your eats and recipes. I would like to see more workout posts. I think blogging twice a day is fine. Perhaps one long post and one short one?

Lauren August 10, 2012 at 4:16 pm

Good idea. Thanks for the suggestion Lily!

Amye August 10, 2012 at 3:48 pm

I love your blog and read it everyday but rarely post. I agree with some of the other comments about multiple posts during the day is a little overwhelming. I like hearing about your day, meals, and recipes!

Lauren August 10, 2012 at 4:15 pm

Thanks so much Amye!

Lisa August 10, 2012 at 4:01 pm

Ah, that salad sounds wonderful!
I think you should do whatever works best for you, but I usually enjoy seeing smaller posts scattered throughout the day. I can understand that it may be hard because your super busy. I don’t mind seeing larger posts either, but for people with short attention spans it might be easier;)
I’d love to see more of your workouts as well!

Lauren August 10, 2012 at 4:15 pm

Thanks Lisa! :)

Laurel August 10, 2012 at 4:28 pm

I’d like to see more fitness/running posts!

Danielle @ clean food creative fitness August 10, 2012 at 4:52 pm

I love your site just the way it is so do whatever makes you happy and is easiest for you! I personally prefer once a day posting as a blogger just because it is easier for me to do and I don’t mind going through longer posts as a reader! Keep up the great work! I love your blog no matter what!

Alysha @Shesontherun August 10, 2012 at 5:12 pm

I love how you photographed your salad on the grass :)

Emily August 10, 2012 at 5:26 pm

I love your blog, but I’d like to read more about your career/family balance.

Meg August 10, 2012 at 6:03 pm

Your salads never disappoint me either girl ;)

Gosh I love your blog the way it is. I just wouldn’t want you to feel too overwhelmed posting multiple times a day, but if you want to I’d totally support you :)

I don’t mind your “long” posts. Some of the blogs I follow have muuuuch longer ones. I love the topics you speak about, so I’ll read whatever you write :) But, I would love more recipes if you have them to share ;)

xoxo

Katie @ Talk Less, Say More August 10, 2012 at 6:14 pm

I love your blog and don’t think I’ve ever found the posts to be too long. But I will admit, I absolutely love reading your “more meaningful” topics as they usually spark some kind of thought in me or correlate with how I’m feeling or something I’m dealing with (or they’re just really interesting to me). If I were to want to see more, I guess I’d hope for more about your workout regime.

Kristin August 10, 2012 at 6:32 pm

Lauren, I heart your blog and would love it if you posted multiple times a day. Yay! I love all of your recipes and would love to see more. Thanks for writing such an enjoyable blog :)

Jessica August 10, 2012 at 6:37 pm

I love your blog because you’re open, honest, yet still fun and informative, if that makes sense? I also agree with the majority of the posts with more posts throughout the day – I tend to read blogs all day long when I have breaks so anticipating more posts from people is something to look forward to. Personally, I love workout posts – I write them down in a book and am able to flip through it when I need motivation or ideas. I also love healthy recipes – it’s sometimes hard finding delicious, healthy, low/no sugar recipes that I can make for others – which is so key right now in the summer!

Danielle @ Itsaharleyyylife August 10, 2012 at 7:24 pm

Love your blog! I’m always looking for new recipes though! So I’ll take some more of those! (:

Stephanie @ The Travelling Tastebuds August 10, 2012 at 7:32 pm

I’m kind of interested in the workouts that you do. I have never seen it before (the one where you are elevated)… so more information/pictures on that would be lovely. I don’t forsee myself trying the exercises due to my location… BUT if your trainer has advice on how to improvise & perform similar routines at home that would be icing on the cake :)

Sara @ sarasmiles August 10, 2012 at 7:39 pm

Sometimes multiple posts can be overwhelming, but I would read your blog regardless! If you do decide to write more than once a day, I would suggest mixing it up. Focus on food/recipes, workouts once in a while, but then it is always good to know the life stuff too. I relate to them more!

Anne August 10, 2012 at 8:11 pm

I actually like the one a day posts, I don’t always have time to keep up with bloggers who post more often.
I love reading about your eats especially since you eat at some delicious looking resautants! I would love to see more on your workouts!

Erica @ For the Sake of Cake August 10, 2012 at 8:32 pm

I’m always up for new recipe ideas! :-)

sarah August 10, 2012 at 9:50 pm

I love your blog, and look forward to your evening posts, I almost always know when to expect them! I think that if you have time to do more posts, then go for it, but no stress :) I would also love to get more recipe ideas, and would enjoy seeing more workouts, reviews, and maybe some fashion posts, you always seem to have cute outfits. I also love the deeper posts, always gives me something to think about!

Pam August 10, 2012 at 10:31 pm

I like your blog just the way it is. Although I do follow some bloggers who do multiple entries, I only read the most current one due to the time element. More recipes would be nice. I have seen your wrap sandwich time after time, but I have never seen a breakdown on how you layer it.

Lauren August 11, 2012 at 6:07 am
Karen August 10, 2012 at 10:51 pm

I have been following your blog for about a year now. I enjoy your daily posts and don’t recall every feeling like they are to long! I personally like the one a day posts, but I would still follow you if you changed it up as well. I don’t know what I would add, your blog has always seemed well balanced to me. My opinion would be to only change things that YOU truly want to change or add, I think that would be best for your work life balance :)

Marilyn August 10, 2012 at 11:19 pm

I like to check in once a day and read your blog, so I think one post is the way to go. That way I don’t feel like I have to keep checking back in to see what I might have missed! I think you have the right formula with a variety of topics….recipes, workouts, and what your day or weekend has been like. Always a pleasure to read!

Jessica August 11, 2012 at 1:47 am

It would be cool it you did a cooking segment that broke down really basic things, like roasting different types of veggies, or prepping salmon, etc. Your salads are all so creative but it would be fun to get inspiration and confidence on food aspects some of us haven’t used before. Perhaps?

In general, I love the balance you have. I noticed a few comments about one post a day and I would second that. I read posts in the evening to relax and get overwhelmed when a blogger has a ton of posts. Ultimately, you have to do what makes you happy and if multiple posts or twice a week or writing about popcorn or whatever random detail you can think of is it, do it. Being genuine always wins more points in my book and it makes everyone happier.

Ashley August 11, 2012 at 2:18 am

I tend to prefer one post a day. I know when I follow blogs that post multiple times a day my reader tends to get overwhelming quickly and I am much more likely to hit “mark all as read” without giving the posts a glance (as much as I hate to do it). Even if the one post is long it is much less overwhelming to me and if I can’t check in for a day or two it’s not daunting to catch up. Just my opinion though. (:

I am looking forward to the enhancements that you mentioned! Especially the recipes.

Lisa August 11, 2012 at 6:38 am

I really like your blog and I don’t think it really matters if you write one bigger post a day or 2/3 smaller ones. Because you always put much effort into each one :) So do what makes you feel more comfortable with and you can do on a regular basis. Maye a switch in between is nice like just focus in one post on workouts and the other one just on healthy food. Either way, your blog is awesome and I’m glad I found it :)

Shannon August 11, 2012 at 6:58 am

I look forward to reading your blog. I’m so happy I stumbled upon it.:) I think posting multiple times a day is fine. I love looking at your food pictures, they really give me inspiration to eat heathy foods because your food looks so good!:)

Floey August 11, 2012 at 7:34 am

I really enjoy your once a day posting schedule. I just love reading about your journey to becoming a better you :)

Melissa August 11, 2012 at 9:13 am

Love your blog!
I think more quicker posts would be a great idea!
maybe some more recipes?!! whatever is easiest for you girlie!

Missy August 11, 2012 at 10:04 am

I don’t mind the long posts. I never think that they are too long.

I love reading bloggers daily lives stuff. What they ate, what they did. It may be boring to write about but I always love to read it.

Rachel August 11, 2012 at 11:26 am

I like the idea of posting 2 times a day… I love reading about what bloggers write and their days :)

Susie August 11, 2012 at 1:04 pm

Something I would love to hear more about are workouts like RPM. I do all my spin work by myself, and have always been a bit intimidated by spin classes (though I’ve basically done the equivalent of them myself for almost a year!). Not only am I curious as to how rpm is different from other workouts, but maybe a few tips and tricks of the trade? Stuff that the usual people don’t say, like how to construct your own workouts! Or how to construct a routine in gyms that have time limits.
Otherwise, I love the mixture of everything, content wise. And I think that the multi-post format will make it easier on you by allowing you to focus on themes/discussions, rather than trying to fit everything in and make it fit. not that you aren’t able to! It just might be easier for you.
But I adore your blog, keep it up!

gabriella August 11, 2012 at 6:11 pm

I like one post a day for the same reason a lot of other people mentioned. Sometimes I feel like when people write multiples a day there is no substance, they just feel they have to. Maybe you could do a couple of series on couple of days a week where you feature a workout of the week or recipe, so on those days there might be an extra more subject based post, but your daily recap would remain the same

Amanda @ Let Me Be What's Underneath August 11, 2012 at 8:03 pm

I kind of like bloggers who just post once a day. I don’t feel like your posts are too long to read. I enjoy that you post once usually in the evening–that’s when I do my blog reading anyways! Ultimately though whatever works best for you is okay with me! I will still be a loyal reader because I really enjoy your blog. I would enjoy some more posts about your style if you would want to incorporate that into the blog.

Kristen August 12, 2012 at 10:48 am

I love your blog! I feel like we have a lot of the same food interests!

Sara August 12, 2012 at 11:45 am

i agree with the majority, and say that the once a day post is great and easy to follow & catch up on. I love all the food you post and would definitely love to see more recipes! I know you’ve talked about working out with a trainer and being and instructor, so I would love to see some more details of workouts. It’s be awesome to get some specific workouts that I could try or even pin for later! : )

Madeline August 12, 2012 at 2:35 pm

I’d definitely like more recipe posts, how you grill your veggies and salmon, etc. I’d also be interested in your strength training routine. I know you’ve posted pictures of some of what you do, but would love to get a break down every now and then. Giveaways are always fun too :)

AnneW August 12, 2012 at 4:34 pm

I’d love to see some stuff about the health/fitness world that interests you! I know you are part of a granola company, and get some cool perks and event invites from that- so it could be fun to see you blog about stuff happening in the natural foods world or fun new products/trends on the market!

Lauren August 13, 2012 at 11:28 am

Oh definitely! There is so much to come with that. :) Thanks for your feedback Anne!

stephanie August 13, 2012 at 12:16 pm

LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog! I would love to see your work out routines. I know you used to post them until people started commenting negatively. But I’d love to see more workouts incorporated! Otherwise GREAT blog with creative recipes!!!!
