Trader Joe’s First Timer

by Lauren on August 11, 2012

Good Morning and Happy Saturday!

Any big plans on tap for the weekend?  Things are pretty low key around here which is definitely welcomed.  I have a baby shower to attend this afternoon and I think Toly and I will be engaging in our favorite Saturday night activity, hanging in the backyard with some music, grilling up a tasty dinner, and killing a few bottles of wine.  It’s as fantastic as it sounds.

So I had no idea the response I would get from my last post but I have to say, I’m overwhelmed and humbled. Wow, not only are you guys giving me so many wonderful suggestions, but the compliments and love you have is truly more than I ever expected.  Thank you! If you still have more to say, please feel free to leave a comment.  I’ll be choosing 3 winners for some free Chobani coupons on Sunday night as a way to thank you all for your help.

Last night, I had the pleasure of playing host on a very anticipated journey for a first time Trader Joe’s shopper.  My dear friend Sara has been hearing me and so many others rave about all things TJ’s for months so we’ve been planning a trip so that she could see for herself what the hype was all about.

As soon as she got off work, I picked her up and we were on our way to Towson, MD. The drive was seamless as we had quite a bit to talk about for the hour trip.  Once we arrived in Towson, we were both pretty hungry and decided to grab dinner at The Cheesecake Factory, conveniently located beside the store.

This was a night of firsts for Sara as she had never been to TCF before.  We sipped on some wine as we decided on our selections.

To start (and to share):

Shrimp Summer Rolls- Delicate Rice Paper Rolled Around Asparagus, Shitake Mushrooms, Carrots, Rice Noodles, Green Onion, Cilantro and Shrimp.

To Dine:

Santorini Farro Salad- A Fresh Light Combination of Farro, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Beets, Red Onion, Feta Cheese and Tzatziki. Tossed with Vinaigrette.

This salad was amazing by the way!  I think it may be new because I don’t recall it on the menu before but I loved every single thing about it.

To End:

Low Carb Cheesecake with fresh strawberries

Surprisingly, we both were in the mood for a lighter option on the cheesecake.  I usually go big or go home if I’m going to order cheesecake here but this was a perfect option to end the meal.

I usually strategize when it comes to these trips so that I’m entirely full before I embark on my shopping.  That way, there’s a slight chance I won’t overindulge in a ridiculous amount of food I probably don’t need from Trader Joe’s.

We had about an hour to get shopping before the store was closing.

Oh my, it’s been awhile since I’ve been here so I needed quite a bit but thankfully, they had just about everything I needed so it was an easy trip.

After one hour of shopping, we managed to do some damage. I’m pretty sure Sara is now hooked.  It happens to the best of us. ;)

Well best wishes to you all for a fantastic weekend!  I hope you enjoy!

Don’t Forget- I’m running a Shabby Apple Giveaway for a chance to win $75 store credit.  Contest is open until Wednesday!

That’s one of my favorite ways to relax on a weekend– share a meal and a bottle or two of wine on the patio with the boyfriend. How often do you drink? I enjoy a glass or two of wine 3-5 nights a week but often worry that may be too much. I, like you, like to lead a healthy lifestyle, so I was wondering what your take on incorporating alcohol into a healthy diet?

Also, I have wanted to try those shrimp spring rolls from the Cheesecake Factory– I love me a good spring roll! Are they any good?

Enjoy your weekend! Sounds like it’s off to a good start already!

Hey Ashley! I usually drink a few glasses on wine a few nights a week. Probably something similar to you and I try not to overdo it but I do LOVE wine and definitely include it into my lifestyle. I’m not a big beer drinker (or hard liquor) but I do have some from time to time.
The shrimp spring rolls are AMAZING! The peanut sauce is hands down some of the best I’ve had.

Cheesecake Factory + TJ’s sounds like the perfect evening! I definitely need to do a TJ’s trip before school starts up again. I go to the one around King of Prussia, but it can be difficult to fit in a trip down there once life gets busy!

What a nice evening! I am really lucky and have a Trader Joes right next door to where I live (in NYC) so it’s the store I always turn to for food shopping!

I’ve never been to a Trader Joes! I’ve been to a Wegman’s is that about the same? I need to go to one though! Love those big stores!

I ‘do damage’ nearly ever time I go to Trader Joe’s haha That store is easily one of my absolute favorites.

Seriously, Cheesecake factory + TJ.. what a perfect night out w/ a friend :) I never knew there was a TJ there, I would always go to philly when I’d be visiting my family.

Thank you!!!! It was a great night for sure, and yes, I’m definitely hooked. I was looking at my receipt — most expensive items were three for $4.99 – how great is that? Plus, the edamame hummus + everything cracker = even my husband is hooked.

Funny: On Facebook on Saturday morning, an old friend of mine was posting the identical trip we took Friday night. Then Saturday night, a friend of mine told me he has been going into New Jersey because he didn’t know about this Towson store either! Haha.

Wow, I wonder if the NJ one sells wine. That’s a whole new aspect of TJ’s that we’ll have to explore. Wait until you get your hands on some 2 buck chuck! :)
