The Flu Plague: How to Avoid It {EpiCor GIVEAWAY}

by Lauren on January 8, 2013

I heard something on the news the other day that didn’t sit too well with my conscious.

Apparently, in 2012 our county suffered the highest total reported cases of the flu in past five years and the numbers keep rising! Every cold and flu seasons seems to accelerate, with no signs of relief.  Scary!

I’d like to think I live a notable healthy life.  I take my vitamins, I drink copious amounts of water, I eat a healthy diet, I get ample sleep, I work out regularly, and I wash my hands frequently.  I do all of the “right” things to keep my immune system functioning properly; however, I am still just as susceptible to pick up germs as the next person.  Remember my recent epidemic when I returned from my Chicago trip last month?

I had the flu this year, and IT. WAS. AWFUL!  I don’t get sick often, but when I do, it’s usually quite an ordeal.

After that, I knew I never wanted to get sick again, and if I had any control over it, that would sound perfect.  But again, I’m not immune, therefore I know I will fall victim to illness again; however, I do know there are ways to strengthen my immune system in order to make it more difficult for this to happen.

Conveniently, a few days after I recovered from the flu, EpiCor contacted me about sampling their 30 Day Immune Support Supplements.

I was more than willing to give my system an extra boost at that point, so I gladly accepted.

What is EpiCor? –

“EpiCor is an all-natural nutritional health ingredient used in dietary supplements that helps support the immune system. It is a unique, complex ingredient comprised of protein, fiber, vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, and other metabolites. Taken daily, EpiCor has been shown to be a safe and effective way to help support immune health and maintain wellness.” – from the website

Aside from being a strong multivitamin, EpiCor also acts as a prebiotic, feeding good bacteria to your gut.  And an added bonus: if you do get sick, EpiCor helps you recover more quickly.

I do take a few vitamins every morning, but nothing specifically for the support of my immune system.  I was happy to add this one to the pill lineup.

I’ve been taking this little pill daily, and while I can’t be 100% sure that it’s the reason, I haven’t picked up any sort of sickness since.  I also haven’t been living in a bubble, so I know I’ve been emerged in germs.

My man and I swear by colloidal silver whenever we start to feel under the weather.

And of course, lots of sleep.

SLEEP is my biggest thing to preventing me from getting sick. I always notice when my sleep is lacking that my immune system goes downhill. I also make sure to take my vitamins, eat well, drink lots of water, and wash my hands lots!

Hi Ashley – You are on the right track! Sleep is huge for long term immune health. Part of the “Five S’s” for good immune function: Sleep, Sport, Sustenance, Stress (management), and Supplementation.

My best tip: vitamin C chewables and always washing my hands!

Amy January 9, 2013 at 2:28 am

staying hydrated, washing my hands, and getting enough sleep! (and I got my flu shot!)

Lisa January 9, 2013 at 5:30 am

I believe sleep is the biggest prevention from getting sick.

Krystal January 9, 2013 at 5:44 am

Why didn’t you mention the flu shot?

Danielle @ itsaharleyyylife January 9, 2013 at 6:41 am

I have this awful problem… I can’t take big pills like that. Ugh I know it is all in my head but I just can’t do it. I also am scared of needles so no flu shot over here for me. Bottom line: I’m screwed.

My biggest preventative measure is sleep! I’m convinced it cures/prevents so many things!

I need this so badly right now. I’ve already been sick TWICE this winter… one being over Christmas/New Years :( It just came back again Sunday night…the whole swollen glands, fatigue, and neck stiffness is NOT fun.

Liked their page! Thanks, Lauren!

Hi all (and Lauren). Appreciate your FB likes on the EpiCorImmune page. I contribute a lot to that page.

I also blog about natural immune health (sponsored by EpiCor). It’s at balancedimmunehealth.com Hope you’ll stop by there as well. I’ve got 4 years of writing piled up on that site. Lots of science, but lots of everyday ponderings, too. Also, on Twitter (@immunedude).

I’ve had a great experience with EpiCor, as has my family. No one can guarantee that everyone will have the same experience, but I wouldn’t change a thing with my EpiCor regimen. The folks at that company bend over backwards to make sure this ingredient continues to attain top-tier scientific validation to prove itself beyond the everyday anecdotal experiences. Which we do hear a lot about!

Anyway, thanks again and hope everyone stays healthy.

My best preventative practice is probably the fact that I have a large and in charge bottle of hand sanitizer on my desk at work :) And I’m super precaution about germs in general. I never drink after others, or use chap stick, eye makeup, anything like that of someone else’s.

I always get the flu shot. I was in close contact for 5 days with my boyfriend that had the flu but I did not get the flu. It worked for me.

Tiffany January 12, 2013 at 9:17 pm

Lots of sleep and water helps keep sickness away for me!!
