Okay, so it’s February 1st, it’s Friday, and it’s a beautiful (cold) day. That pretty much paints the scene for a perfect start to the weekend. Even though mine will be filled with work, I’m still at the point where my jobs feel more like a blessing, so “work” has suddenly taken a different meaning for me.
Looking at my Instagram feed, it looks like I have quite a few things to share so I’ll just jump right into the confessions.
Confession #1-
Meet my latest literary escape. My mentor recommended this book for me and she couldn’t have been more dead on. It’s a powerful, blazingly honest memoir of the story of an eleven-hundred-mile solo hike that broke down a young woman reeling from catastrophe – and build her back up again. Think Eat Pray Love but more raw and full of suspense.
Confession #2-
I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time in Starbucks lately. On Wednesday, I hit my all time record with 6 hours, 4 Americanos, in 2 different locations. Here is my problem – I work in the city and often not until the evening so in order to avoid the disastrous rush hour traffic on I-90, I’ve been giving myself a few hours ahead of schedule. As much as I love a good Bux, I was so thrilled to hear of a fantastic little local European coffee house a mile from my work. Fridays will now be spent sipping on salted carmel lattes and eating their glorious homemade pastries before a night of pouring wine. I love life.
Confession #3-
I have a million different things going on in my life right now. I know you’re not surprised, but this whole multiple electronic calendar thing is really daunting. I’ve averted back to my comfortable method of the good old fashion pen and planner. I feel so much more grounded when I can physically write out my plans.
Confession #4-
So I’m pretty sure Ghirardelli created this new flavor just for me. It’s perfection.
Confession #5-
I’ve been ending almost every night with a hot cup of decaf green tea with lemongrass and peppermint. I’ve never been a tea drinker but I must say, I’m suddenly becoming a tea snob. Apparently I like fine liquids in all forms – wine, coffee, and now tea. Go figure.
Confession #6-
I’m thinking of moving in with Mara. She is just lovely, she makes me laugh, and now she cooks dinner for me. It’s the start of a beautiful relationship.
Speaking of Mara, I would love you all if you took a second to head over to her entry page for the Cupcake Crown cupcake contest. She’s entered her delicious looking cannoli cupcake into the contest and would love your support!
Confession #7-
Have I told you all how much I loved you lately? No? Well, I do. Because of your votes, I was selected as one of the Top 25 Healthy Eating Blogs on Skinny Scoop. You all make my world. Enough said.
Confession #8 -
Tomorrow is another bi-weekly brunch with my two favorites, Chelsey and Kathleen. This fact is getting me through the rest of the day.
Wishing everyone a fabulous weekend!

I could live in a starbucks
. I actually worked there today too! Hope you have a great brunch
I use an old-fashioned planner too. I love it
!
Is that a Target planner!?
And if Maura is accepting new guests, count me in:)
Love you girlie! Thanks for the shout out, and for the link to the cupcake contest!
Clare, you’re more than welcome
Hi Lauren,
I love your site and posts! I’m new to the healthy living blog world and really enjoyso far!
I use a planner and pen too.
Enjoy running.
Love good food , but had way too much over the holidays. And kept going.
Your blog inspires me to return the healthy habits I enjoy.
Nice to “meet” you,
Penny
We are both wine, coffee and tea snobs…we were meant to be friends!
I wanted to drop by and tell you that I’m finally going to my first blogger meet-up next weekend, but I’m sad that you won’t be in attendance now that you’re all the way in Chicago!! I hope you are adjusting well to your new home! I will have to take you up on your book recommendation–it sounds really interesting!
You’ve found one of my top 5 favorite coffee spots in Chicago! You should try their breakfast or lunch or brunch sometime – baked eggs = heaven.
Also, is that chocolate available in stores?!
Hey Lauren! I’m a long time reader, and a new commenter! Looks like you are loving Chicago and are adjusting well. I just moved from Boston to Australia, so I can relate with the new schedule stress, settling in, finding your wày around and everything! I always enjoy your blog, have a great weekend!
I’ve heard great thing about Wild, I’m hoping to read it soon! I have that chocolate as well and it is amazing.
Chicago seems to be really agreeing with you. It comes through your writing that you are happier than ever
I just bought a paper planner today after reading your post! I have been feeling extremely overwhelmed with everything in my life lately and I feel like this may help. I always, always, always used paper planners, but in the last 2 years I’ve gotten away from it and use my work Outlook/iPhone calendar. Let’s hope this works (for both of us!)
1) “…good old fashion pen and planner. I feel so much more grounded when I can physically write out my plans.” <—- THIS! yes! plus I love the feeling of turning pages and pen on PAPER! yes!
2) I drink decaf tea every night with the Boy! It's kind of part of our bedtime/night time ritual!
3) Hurray for local coffee shops!
4) I have had Mara make me dinner before, and I agree… it's WONDEEFUL! She is lots of fun!
Happy Monday, Lauren!
xoxo,
GC
Sounds like you’re having such a cozy time! A good friend makes all the difference… so happy you get to hang with the awesome Mara! I don’t have a good coffee shop near me- although there are a few near school- so I just end up wasting time at home!
Your Sbux prowess impresses me girl!
I was just looking for a new book to read and this sounds righ tup my alley. Thanks
I’m not sure why but I have to write down my plans in pen too! I sometimes use an electronic calendar/list but there is something about writing it down that helps me accomplish it. Weird but true
