Fiber is a really important part of our diets.  Yet it is something that is so often overlooked.  So we have pulled together all the info you need and are giving you the best recipe to boost your intake today.

Your body can’t really digest fiber and this is why it plays such an important part in your diet.  Soluble fiber such as the kind you find in lots of fruits and nuts (cucumber, blueberries, beans) dissolves into a gel which helps to slow down your digestion.  This is great for weight control as it helps you feel fuller for longer.  Insoluble fiber is found in dark green leafy vegetables, green beans, carrots and celery.  It doesn’t dissolve at all so helps to bulk out your stools.  This is perfect for a healthy elimination, moving food more efficiently through your digestive system although you will need to measure how much water you drink to prevent your body from clogging up.  Lots of whole foods contain both soluble and insoluble fiber.  

So how can it benefit your health? There are a number of ways fibre will boost your health.  Including:

Blood sugar control:  The soluble fibre can help to breakdown carbohydrates and absorb sugar, this steadies your blood sugar levels

Heart health: Increased intake of fiber has seen a 40 percent reduction in the risk of heart disease and research has also found that every seven grams of fiber you consume a day, your stroke risk is decreased by 7 percent!

Skin health: Fibre may help move yeast out of your body.  This prevents it from being excreted through your skin which can cause rashes and yeast infections.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Increasing your fiber intake can provide relief from the symptoms of IBS.

Of course you should ensure not to go too crazy with fiber as it can cause you a few issues too.  Eating too much could cause you to become constipated which will give you pain and make you feel sluggish.  So don’t rush out and start weighing out bowls of bran.  Learn which foods are a good source of fiber and then including them in healthy measures in your diet.
